The Name
Devotions:
“These signs will accompany those who have believed: in My name they will cast out demons, they will speak with new tongues; they will pick up serpents, and if they drink any deadly poison, it will not hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover."”
Mark
NASB
“Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do, he will do also; and greater works than these he will do; because I go to the Father.” John
NASB
We are to do the works of Jesus by using the name of Jesus. Using the name of Jesus is using His authority which He acquired by defeating Satan through His death, burial, and resurrection. Jesus did notable signs, wonders, and miracles. He healed the sick, cast out demons, and set the captives free. This is what we are to do using His name.
These notable miracles are a demonstration of the victory that Jesus won for us. What it takes is not faith in ourselves but faith in the name of Jesus.
“And when they had set them in the midst, they asked, By what power, or by what name, have ye done this? Then Peter, filled with the Holy Ghost, said unto them, Ye rulers of the people, and elders of Israel, If we this day be examined of the good deed done to the impotent man, by what means he is made whole; Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole.”
Acts 4:7-10 KJV
Our faith is demonstrated by our action. Do we really believe that we have the use on that all powerful name?
