Devotions:

We make a grave mistake by trying to read and understand the New Testament through Old Testament glasses.  Some argue that well God is the same, He never changes.  This is true but He has changed the object of His love, He has changed the believer.  Even the Israelites in the Old Testament were under bondage to sin.  This is why The Isrealites were told to totally destroy civilizations, because they had allowed a strong hold of sin and degredation and at that time satan was not defeated.

Under the Old Covenant the Savior was promised, Genesis 3:15, and the law was introduced through Moses.  The law was to show the people that they could not reach perfection through their own efforts and that they needed a Savior.  Under the Law they waited each year for the day of atonement, Yom Kippur, to see if the sacrifice for their sins was accepted, that is the priest did not die while offering it, so they would be good for another year.  In their hearts they knew that they were stilll in bondage to their sins.  God's mercy was there for them.

In the New Covenant all our sin and sins were dealt with once and for all in the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross.  Where sin has been adequately dealt with there should be no more rememberance of sin.  In the Old Covenant there was a yearly sacrifice because the blood of bulls and goats cannot take away sin.  Then there is a continual reminder that the sins have not been dealt with becasue of the yearly sacrifice.  But Jesus died once for our sin and then sat down at the right hand of the Father signifying that the work was finished and complete.

“For then would they not have ceased to be offered? because that the worshippers once purged should have had no more conscience of sins.”  ‭Hebrews‬ ‭10:2‬ ‭KJV‬‬

In the Old Covenant they were continually reminded of their sin but in the New Covenant the full price has been paid so we should not go around reminding people of their sins nor should we remember our own sins.  God is the same but the sacrificial blood has been shed and the price fully paid for all of our sins, past, present and future.  We are forgiven!!!!

“In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins:”

‭Colossians‬ ‭1:14‬ ‭KJV‬‬

We are no longer under law but we are under grace.  The only way the curse of sickness and disease, poverty, calamity, depression... could attach was because of sin.  Now sin has been forgiven and removed so the cause has been taken away so should be the symptome, sickness and disease, poverty, calamity, depression....

Begin to see yourself through New Testament glasses not Old Testament glasses.
