Rest

Devotions:

"For he spake in a certain place of the seventh day on this wise, And God did rest the seventh day from all his works."

"There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God. For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his. Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief." (‭Hebrews‬ ‭4‬:‭4, 9-11‬ KJV)

God rested from all of His works which means that our salvation is a finished work.  Jesus is the completed work of God even in salvation.  We can add nothing to this finished work and we can take nothing away from it.  It is available to all humans but they must receive it.  It is ours in the new birth.  Many get born again but then try to add their own efforts to what God has done and walk around frustrated and defeated because they are not dwelling in His finished work, they are not dwelling in rest.

When Jesus ascended into heaven He sat down at the right hand of the Father which means that He finished His assignment.  In the heart of the Father this was a finished act from the foundation of the world and was consumated in Jesus.

In our day to day experience this is worked out as we look unto Jesus who is the Author and Finisher of our faith.  We are not looking to our works but to Jesus.  We cannot perfect our salvation nor become more holy or righteous by our efforts.  Our holiness and righteousness are exclusively in Jesus and was given to us as a gift in the new birth which Jesus and the Holy Spirit created at Jesus' resurrection.  Jesus was the first one born again from the dead and declared a Son of God.  This opened the door for everyone else to be born again and made right with the Father.  Our life then is to be a response to the Father's goodness towards us.  Jesus said in Matthew 19: 17 that only God is good.  There is no good apart from God.  What the world and sin offers cannot even compare with the goodness of God our Father and He wants to lavish all of His goodness upon you.  You do not deserve it nor can you earn it nor merit it.  You can never pay Him back and it would be an insult to try.  He just ask you to totally relax and rest in His goodness and the completed work of that goodness.

"Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth." (‭Psalms‬ ‭46‬:‭10‬ KJV)

Take time right now to enjoy His goodness and mercy towards you and rest in the completed work of Christ.  "........Christ in you the hope of glory."  Colcssians 1:27
