Spirit Food
Devotions:
“But He answered and said, "It is written, 'MAN SHALL NOT LIVE ON BREAD ALONE, BUT ON EVERY WORD THAT PROCEEDS OUT OF THE MOUTH OF GOD.'" Matthew 4:4 NASB
This is Jesus' response to the devil trying Him to get His natural need for food met after fasting forty days. Jesus recognized that the physical was subservient to the spiritual. We are a spirit being whether we are born again or not. If we have never received Christ as Lord and what He did for us for our redemption then we are spiritually separated from our Father, the Creator of the universe. But when we are born again we are brought back in to relationship with God. We need to realize that everything in the physical world came out of the spiritual world and our true fulfillment and satisfaction is in the spiritual world in our relationship and fellowship with our Father.
Jesus was saying that it was more necessary to have spiritual food than natural food. It is more important to be fulfilled spiritually than naturally. The end of the temptation the angels came and ministered to Jesus. As we put the spiritual first and seek first the kingdom of God and His will and glory in all things God will take care of our natural needs.
God has given us spiritual food, His word and as it is breathed to us by the Holy Spirit it brings life into our spirits, souls and bodies. The value that we treat the word with determines the amount of nourishment that we get out of it. If we will daily put the word of God first place in our lives then we will receive the benefit that God placed in it for us. We also need to feed on natural food but realize the importance of spiritual food above the natural.
