Untouched by the Curse

Devotions:

"God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good? Behold, I have received commandment to bless: and he hath blessed; and I cannot reverse it. He hath not beheld iniquity in Jacob, neither hath he seen perverseness in Israel: the Lord his God is with him, and the shout of a king is among them." (‭Numbers‬ ‭23‬:‭19-21‬ KJV)

Balak the king of Moab had asked Balaam to come and curse israel for a sum of money.  Balaam did his best but he could only speak what God had put in his mouth.  He said that he had received a commandment to bless.  Why? because Israel was in a covenant with God and God had blessed them and no one in the universe could go against that covenant blessing.  Then God said that He saw no iniquity in Jacob nor any perverseness in Israel.  Was Israel really that perfect? Not by a long shot.  In reality they were not even close to perfect, no sin, no iniquity, no perverseness.  But that is how God saw them.  Those who walked with God were untouched then ones who did their own thing died in the wilderness.  God would not allow any curse to come upon them.

We have a better covenant based on better promises. No curse can come upon us because God will not allow it.

Balaam did teach Balak how to get the Israelites to bring the curse upon themselves by seducing them and getting them to go after other gods.  When we serve other gods then we hurt and grieve our God, our Father, the Creator of the universe.  God empowers us to walk upright with Him through His life in us and the finished work of Jesus.  In all of our imperfection, God sees us as perfect in Jesus.  If we try to come to Him in our own strenght and efforts then He sees us as imperfect.  Walk in the perfection that God has for you in Jesus and avoid the curse.
