Lovingkindness of God

Devotions:

“How precious is Your lovingkindness, O God! And the children of men take refuge in the shadow of Your wings. They drink their fill of the abundance of Your house; And You give them to drink of the river of Your delights. For with You is the fountain of life; In Your light we see light. O continue Your lovingkindness to those who know You, And Your righteousness to the upright in heart.”  ‭Psalms‬ ‭36:7-10‬ ‭NASB‬‬

Is the lovingkindness of God precious in your sight.  This lovingkindness is the the covenant word Hesed.  It is the goodness of God.  It is the committed love of God to us for our good.  It is the blessing of God.  It is ours because we are in covenant relationship with God through our representative, the man Christ Jesus.  Jesus was 100% God and 100% man so He was the representative for the whole human race.  When we understand that we are in a covenant relationship with God then we willingly run to the shadow of His wings.  God has no shadow and He has no wings but here David is talking about the  intimacy of His protection that He has for us.

All of our needs are met by His abundance.  If He does not have it, He will make it.  There is no lack in the house of God.  David saw God's abundant provision throughout his life because He walked with God.  His covenant with God was of a lesser quality because the man side was Israel and they continually broke the covenant.  Jesus will never break our covenant.

Sometimes we get the picture that God is a somber God, very stoic having no fun.  But David says that God has a river of delights that we are to drink from.  The delights of God give us life and not death.  The delights of the world bring death and destruction.

The world has sought the Fountain of Youth and yet all the time it is in God. For with Him is the fountain of life.  When we partake of it, Jesus, we will never die.  We still leave this body but we are not a body, we are a spirit being and we will forever be with the Lord.

When we set our hearts to obey God, it opens up more understanding of His wisdom, His word to us.  When we walk in His light, more light comes.  We walk in the light of His lovingkindness becasue we know Him. We set our hearts to know Him better and to walk with Him more intimately.  This is our heritage, to know God and His lovingkindness that He has for us.
