Breaking Sin Bondage

Devotions:
“So Jesus was saying to those Jews who had believed Him, "If you continue in My word, then you are truly disciples of Mine; and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free."
Jesus answered them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who commits sin is the slave of sin.
So if the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed.”
John 8:31-32, 34, 36 NASB
“What then? Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace? May it never be! Do you not know that when you present yourselves to someone as slaves for obedience, you are slaves of the one whom you obey, either of sin resulting in death, or of obedience resulting in righteousness?” Romans 6:15-16 NASB
When you are a slave you must obey your master. You have no choice in the matter. So it is with sin, it demands of us to do things that destroy us and the things that are the most valuable to us, it seeks to kill us and steals from us the things that are precious to us. When someone gets on drugs it totally dictates their lives and they cannot quit and many times do not want to quit even though they are be destroyed. The same is true with any sin, it will totally dictate your life and many times you do not even seem to have the desire to quit. If you are born again there is the desire in your spirit to quit and the power to quit but you must be aware of this power.
“and He Himself bore our sins in His body on the cross, so that we might die to sin and live to righteousness; for by His wounds you were healed.” 1 Peter 2:24 NASB
Jesus said that if we continue in His word, the word that we have already been delivered from the conquences of sin and the power of sin through His Blood and His life within us. You must believe this to walk in the victory. Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God. So as you meditate on I Peter 2:24 and Romans 6: 1-11 or Colossians 1:13,14 until faith comes then you will be free in deed.
