Choose Life
Devotions:
“I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live: That thou mayest love the Lord thy God, and that thou mayest obey his voice, and that thou mayest cleave unto him: for he is thy life, and the length of thy days: that thou mayest dwell in the land which the Lord sware unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give them.”
Deuteronomy 30:19-20 KJV
“Lord, make me to know mine end, and the measure of my days, what it is; that I may know how frail I am.” Psalms 39:4 KJV
We must know that we are very temporary here and we need an eternal perspective. We are frail and without God we are nothing. God set before us life and death. All they had in the Old Testament was the Law. But the Law could not save them so why the Law? It pointed them to their need for a savior. We have a Savior who has already kept the Law perfectly on our behalf and by His new life within us He will keep it through us. This is by following the leading of the Holy Spirit within us. Notice here in Deuteronomy Moses declares that God is our life. We need a revelation of that, we are not our own. We belong to God. As we follow the Spirit He gives us long life and blesses us with the blessing of Abraham.
God tells us through Moses to choose life, choose blessing. Sin brings death and a curse, choose life and blessing instead. Walk by the power of the Spirit and live life to the fullest.
