Love

Devotions:

“And He said to him, " 'YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, AND WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND.' This is the great and foremost commandment. The second is like it, 'YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF.' On these two commandments depend the whole Law and the Prophets."”

‭‭Matthew‬ ‭22:37-40‬ ‭NASB‬‬

“And He was transfigured before them; and His face shone like the sun, and His garments became as white as light. And behold, Moses and Elijah appeared to them, talking with Him. Peter said to Jesus, "Lord, it is good for us to be here; if You wish, I will make three tabernacles here, one for You, and one for Moses, and one for Elijah." While he was still speaking, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and behold, a voice out of the cloud said, "This is My beloved Son, with whom I am well-pleased; listen to Him!"”  ‭Matthew‬ ‭17:2-5‬ ‭NASB‬‬
“Now therefore why do you put God to the test by placing upon the neck of the disciples a yoke which neither our fathers nor we have been able to bear?”  ‭Acts‬ ‭15:10‬ ‭NASB‬‬

The Law says that we are to love God with all our heart, soul and mind and to love our neighbors as ourself.  Peter says that none of the Israelites were able to do.  Even though God commands under the Old Covenant that we love Him with everything that we have and our neighbor as ourselves, we are not able in our own strength. In Christianity many times it is preached that we must strive to please God by loving Him with all that we are.  But this is impossible to do by ourselves.  When Jesus appeared on the mount of transfiguration Moses and Elijah appeared with Him.  Moses represented the law and Elijah the prophets.  Peter wanted to build three tabernacles to make religious shrines but the Father spoke from heaven and said to listed to His Son, not the law and the prophets.  Why? In order to love God with all our being and love our neighbor as ourself we must first have a revelation of how much God loves us and demonstrated it by sending His Son to die in our place.

“A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, even as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another."” ‭John‬ ‭13:34-35‬ ‭NASB‬‬

As we behold Jesus and the Father's love for us this creates love in us for God and for our neighbor. Wake every morning and partake of that love by expressing your faith in what He has done by praising and thanking Him for your salvation. Then continue throughout the day in your praise and thanksgiving and your love for God and your neighbor will grow in leaps and bounds.
