Clinging to God

Devotions:

        “The idols of the nations are but silver and gold, The work of man's hands. They have mouths, but they do not speak; They have eyes, but they do not see; They have ears, but they do not hear, Nor is there any breath at all in their mouths. Those who make them will be like them, Yes, everyone who trusts in them. O house of Israel, bless the LORD; O house of Aaron, bless the LORD; O house of Levi, bless the LORD; You who revere the LORD, bless the LORD.”  ‭Psalms‬ ‭135:15-20‬ ‭NASB‬‬

        “For as the waistband clings to the waist of a man, so I made the whole household of Israel and the whole household of Judah cling to Me,' declares the LORD, 'that they might be for Me a people, for renown, for praise and for glory; but they did not listen.'”  ‭Jeremiah‬ ‭13:11‬ ‭NASB‬‬     
        That who or which we trust in is what we become like. Here is psalms the psalmist says that those who make the idols and trust in them become like them.  they do not see or hear and there is no life in them, there is a natural life but no divine life.  Then he tells Israel and all that revere Him to trust in the Lord God. 

        “I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me and I in him, he bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing.”  ‭John‬ ‭15:5‬ ‭NASB‬‬

        Jesus totally trusted in the Father, even though He was God in the flesh.  He laid aside those Godly attributes and walked as a man totally submitted to the Father.  He not only is our example but through the new birth He has give us a submissive heart and the resurrection power to walk like He does. 

        In Jeremiah the prophet gives us the picture of the heart cry of the Father.  That we would cling to Him closely like a waste band or belt, does to a person.  God wants a special people for three things, for renoun, for praise and for glory. As we rely totally on the Lord we walk in a wisdom that this natural world knows nothing about.  We are walking with the creator of the universe.  People of the earth are to see us and know that we are a people of God who walk with Him. We are to make His name known throughout the earth and the universe. We are to be a people for praise or a praise to God and a glory. God wants to display His glory, His goodness upon His special people, those born again.  God is love and we have not even begun to experience His love for us.. We have only scratched the surface in our understanding of His great love for us. 

          As we cling to God like glue then the only thing stopping God overwhelming us with His blessing is the limitations of our minds.  But as we spend time in His presence He will overcome even that.
