Flesh vs Spirit

Devotions:

God hates the works of the flesh. This is not only what is considered sin but it also includes the works that we do to try to be acceptable to God. Even our worship that originates in our soul rather than our spirit is detestable in His sight.

“But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away." ‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭64:6‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Under the New Covenant we are to be led by the Spirit in every area of our lives. We do not initiate our worship, in worship we are to truly appreciate what God has already done for us by His grace and mercy. We will demonstrate this through the intensity of our praise and thanksgiving as we believe the magnitude of His love for us as demonstrated in Christ Jesus. All of our worship, all of our works are to be a response to God's salvation for us and in us. We were created unto good works but those good works are by the Spirit because we are saved not to save us.

“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.”  ‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭2:8-10‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Everything we do, yes even our life itself has its origin in God. God did a complete work in our salvation and we cannot improve it. When we try to add to it we defile it, and make it impure. This applies to our whole being. This is one reason our prayer life, which is a privilege, is a necessity. Prayer is the highest privilege we have and one of the most powerful weapons that we have. To walk in the Spirit we must spend time praying.
