Spirit Life Fed by Prayer

Devotions:

“Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.

And ye have not his word abiding in you: for whom he hath sent, him ye believe not.”

‭‭John‬ ‭5:24, 38‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Jesus is talking about the future for the listeners because eternal life was not possible until His death, burial and resurrection.  He said that the reason that we are saved is because we have eternal life imparted to us, not because we do anything right.  We pass from death unto life and that new life produces our actions.  We act on what we believe so as we believe what God has done for us we act accordingly.  We love God because we know and believe the love that He has for us. When we receive eternal life His word comes to abide in us.  Jeremiah prophesied that in the new covenant God would write His laws on our hearts and on our inner most being.  This is the importation of the Spirit of God so that we are purified by the new birth and become the temples of the Holy Spirit.

The Spirit and the Word of God work together in giving us victory.  We act now not on verses memorized that we try to keep through the power of our flesh but on the flow of life by the Holy Spirit as He highlights the word and empowers us to fulfill it.

This is on reason to maintain a fervent prayer life.  Our contact with God through His Spirit is refreshing water to thirsty ground.  No matter how many seeds you plant, it there is no watering the ground by irrigation or rain then the seeds will not sprout and produce.  But when watered the seeds bring forth.  Even so with the things of the Spirit, when you plant the word of God in your heart, there is no germination until it it watered by the Spirit in prayer.  This holds true in witnessing, it takes the watering by prayer to bring forth fruit from the seed of the word.

“Pray without ceasing.”

‭‭1 Thessalonians‬ ‭5:17‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Keep watering the seeds in you and the seeds that God gives you the privilege of planting.
