Sons vs Orphans
Devotion
We were born children of God when we were born again. We were born of His word, begotten of Him. We are not orphans that were adopted in to the family! We were born into the family. We need to rid ourselves of the orphan spirit. The orphan spirit is produces in people a fear of doing something wrong and getting kicked out of the family. God will never kick us out of the family. We are His substance. Paul talks about our receiving the adoption as sons. This is not the western understanding of adoption, of bring someone into the family who is not naturally born in the family. The Biblical understanding of adoption is really son placement. Really a natural born child coming to maturity as a full grown son with all the responsibilities and privileges of a mature son.
“For all who are being led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. For you have not received a spirit of slavery leading to fear again, but you have received a spirit of adoption as sons by which we cry out, "Abba! Father!" The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, heirs also, heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him so that we may also be glorified with Him.”
Romans 8:14-17 NASB
A son does not hesitate to come into the house and go to the refrigerator and see what is there to eat. A son though respectful does not fear to speak his heart. An orphan tiptoes around like they might break something. A son knows his standing within the family. The orphan is never sure where he stands. A son acts boldly in the name of the Father, an orphan is hesitant for fear of making a mistake, The son knows that even if he makes a mistake he is forgiven. The orphan tries to hide his mistakes in fear of retribution. You are a child of God placed as a son in the presence of the Father. Stop acting like an orphan.
