Honoring the Gift
Devotions:
“And, behold, a woman of Canaan came out of the same coasts, and cried unto him, saying, Have mercy on me, O Lord, thou Son of David; my daughter is grievously vexed with a devil. But he answered her not a word. And his disciples came and besought him, saying, Send her away; for she crieth after us. But he answered and said, I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel. Then came she and worshipped him, saying, Lord, help me. But he answered and said, It is not meet to take the children's bread, and to cast it to dogs. And she said, Truth, Lord: yet the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from their masters' table. Then Jesus answered and said unto her, O woman, great is thy faith: be it unto thee even as thou wilt. And her daughter was made whole from that very hour.” Matthew 15:22-28 KJV
This woman even though she was a gentile, displayed honor towards Jesus and got her miracle. She recognized the gift that was in Jesus and gave great importance to that gift. She was not about to give up seeking what she needed until she had obtained the deliverance for her daughter. She knew that as a gentile she had no right to ask but she did not let this stop her. The Jews were to have no association with Gentiles but she insisted. She was not under the law like the Jews so she had great faith in God's mercy. Jesus declared that she had great faith. She was not a part of the covenant that God had cut with Israel yet she received more than most of the Israelites who were under the covenant. The Israelites disqualified themselves because they were trying to be accepted by keeping the law and they all failed. She knew that she was imperfect and so she threw herself on the mercy of God. Her boldness honored God. She was not going to take "no" for an answer. Her honoring was her placing great significance on Jesus and anointing on Him to heal.
What we place significance on and follow hard after is what will come into our lives. If we honor God in this way we will walk in the blessings of God.
“Because thou hast been my help, therefore in the shadow of thy wings will I rejoice. My soul followeth hard after thee: thy right hand upholdeth me.” Psalms 63:7-8 KJV
