A New Heart

Devotions:

All sin is selfishness.  In selfishness we fail to look to God to be God in our lives and choose instead to be our own God.  The basis of the law of God which revealed His nature and character is love.

“Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.”  ‭Matthew‬ ‭22:37-40‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Jeremiah 9:17, says that the heart of man is desperately wicked and deceitful above all things. So the Israelites much less the Gentiles could not keep this commandment that all the law and commandments were based upon.  God knew this, Jesus knew this. That is why God sent a Savior.  Jesus came to give us a new heart, a heart of love that wanted to do the Father's will. When we are born again and receive the new heart there is still collateral clutter in our souls because our souls have been programmed by our old nature of sin to act in sin.  As we submit ourselves to the word of God and come into His presence through praise and worship (Psalm 22:3) God transforms us.  The more of a revelation that we have of how much God loves us the more it heals us and creates love in our heart. Instead of walking in selfishness we walk in the God kind of love.  Worldly love is selfish and shallow.  God's love is self-giving. When we do something that God has said is contrary to His word even though we think we are walking in love, we are not.  God knows the end of all things and our actions taken out to the logical end are selfish. God never fails and He is never unfaithful to His word because He cannot lie.  He has given us His word to reveal to us His love for us. He hates that which would damage us and hurt us. That is why He hates sin.

God is love and He sent Jesus to deliver you from your sin and sins.
