The Anointing

Devotions:

David refused to move against God's anointed, King Saul. Saul was determined to destroy David because he saw that David was anointed by God and God's presence had left Saul.  David was not honoring the man, Saul, honoring the posistion and the anointing that goes with the posistion.  Samuel had anointed Saul at the direction of God.  David knew that if God put Saul in as King, it was God that must take him out.

“And David said to Abishai, Destroy him not: for who can stretch forth his hand against the Lord's anointed, and be guiltless? David said furthermore, As the Lord liveth, the Lord shall smite him; or his day shall come to die; or he shall descend into battle, and perish.”

‭‭1 Samuel‬ ‭26:9-10‬ ‭KJV‬‬

In the New Covenant we all have an anointing, the presence of the Holy Spirit who comes to dwell in us at the new birth. So we are not to speak negatively against a believer not because of who they are personally but because of the anointing within them.  Those who are fulfilling one of the office ministries such as pastor or evangelist or prophet even though we may disagree with their theology we still need to honor the office and the anointing that goes with the office.

Concerning civil offices, presidents and those in government we are to show honor to the office even though we may may not agree with the politics. We can pray and ask God to put godly men and women into the offices and pray for those in office.

In all of this we are looking at the anointing of God and honoring God by honoring His anointing.  Saul was acting ungodly and seeking to kill David yet David sought to honor God. When someone brought news of Saul's death and claimed that he was responsible for killing Saul. David had the man put to death for the man not respecting the anointing of God on Saul.
