Alms Giving

Devotions:

“Take heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen of them: otherwise ye have no reward of your Father which is in heaven. Therefore when thou doest thine alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth: that thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father which seeth in secret himself shall reward thee openly.” ‭Matthew‬ ‭6:1-4‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Alms are a very special offering to help the poor when we give alms we do not want to do it in a way that embarrasses the poor. We also do not want to do in such a way that draws attention to ourselves. Then we are just doing it just for show and not really to help the poor. Jesus tells that if we give to be seen of men then we have no reward from our Father. So there is a reward form God for helping the poor when we do it in secret and not to get the glory from men for our great work. When we do it in secret our Father rewards us openly to be seen of all men. When we are giving to other needs such as a building project or just general offering, then we can use it as an inspiration  to encourage others to give.
