Fasting

Devotions:
“Moreover when ye fast, be not, as the hypocrites, of a sad countenance: for they disfigure their faces, that they may appear unto men to fast. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. But thou, when thou fastest, anoint thine head, and wash thy face; that thou appear not unto men to fast, but unto thy Father which is in secret: and thy Father, which seeth in secret, shall reward thee openly.” Matthew 6:16-18 KJV
Another spiritual exercise is fasting. We fast not to try to twist God’s arm to get Him to do what we want. God is the same before we fast, when we fast and after we fast. We fast to become more spiritually sensitive to the voice of God. When we fast we put our flesh under and humble ourselves before God when we fast not to be seen by men. When we fast we are to look normal and not advertise our fasting. Some people believe that the more you fast the more spiritual you are but we should have a goal in fasting. We fast to receive an answer from God. As we fast we are to use the extra time w would have eaten to spend in the word of God and in prayer. As we spend time before our Father and focus on Him we should expect to receive the answer that we need. We do not need to fast to be spiritual. Fasting does not increase our faith, the word does. Our fasting does not increase our authority. Fasting just makes us more sensitive in the spirit realm but if we do not obey the leading of the Holy Spirit, the fasting does us no good.
When we fast especially for long periods of time we are susceptibility to the spirit realm and there other spirits that are not of God that will try to take advantage of us. Another caution is that you can fast so much that you do damage to your physical body.
