The Name Over the Defeated Foe

Devotions:

“Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross; And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.”

‭‭Colossians‬ ‭2:14-15‬ ‭KJV‬‬

A name can be obtained three different ways. Yesterday we saw that Jesus humbled HImself under the will of the Father and the Father awarded Him the Name above every Name at which every other thing must bow.  Here in Colossians we see the second way a name can be obtained that is by conquest.  Paul in Colossians tells us that Jesus thoroughly defeated satan and displayed him helpless and unarmed to the universe.

“And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power, Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places, Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come: And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church, Which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all.”

‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭1:19-23‬ ‭KJV‬‬

So when we use the Name of Jesus we are using the Name of the Victor.  We are enforcing the victory that Jesus has already won for us.  We are never told to fight the devil but to stand in the victory that has already been won for us.  As we study and meditate on these two scriptures until we become confident that in Jesus satan is defeated.  Jesus did not defeat satan for Himself but for us.  Jesus removed the strangle hold that satan had on us by becoming our sins and dying on the cross for the penalty for those sins.  Because of Jesus we stand clean before the Father always.  Satan cannot touch us unless we let him.  Satan is an excellent illusionist.  He will try to trick us into believing that we still have a debt of sin and therefore are unacceptable to God so we do not access God's grace and mercy.

If we try to face satan in our own power we will be defeated.  But if we go with the Name of Jesus then we win.

“And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: Of sin, because they believe not on me; Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more; Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged.”

‭‭John‬ ‭16:8-11‬ ‭KJV‬‬

The enemy has already been judged and sentenced,  Do not identify with the enemy, identify with the Savior.
