Small Things
Devotions:
“His master said to him, 'Well done, good and faithful slave. You were faithful with a few things, I will put you in charge of many things; enter into the joy of your master.'”
Matthew 25:21 NASB
We need to pay attention to small things. In this parable the servant was faithful in a few things or small details. We need to train ourselves to be sensitive to the God's word and to the leading of the Holy Spirit.
“But Samuel said, "What have you done?" And Saul said, "Because I saw that the people were scattering from me, and that you did not come within the appointed days, and that the Philistines were assembling at Michmash, therefore I said, 'Now the Philistines will come down against me at Gilgal, and I have not asked the favor of the LORD.' So I forced myself and offered the burnt offering." Samuel said to Saul, "You have acted foolishly; you have not kept the commandment of the LORD your God, which He commanded you, for now the LORD would have established your kingdom over Israel forever.”
1 Samuel 13:11-13 NASB
Here Saul thought that it was not a big deal to step out of his calling, as king, and take the place of the priest. The people were scattering. A small thing to offer the sacrifice to attain God's blessing before going to war. He had waited the seven days that were told him by Samuel and no Samuel. But his presumption cost him the kingdom for his sons.
In 2 Samuel 15 Samuel by the word of God told Saul to go totally anhilate the Amalakites. Saul proceeded to do what was traditional and destroyed the worthless and despised goods and most of the people but kept KIng Agag alive. This was contrary to what God had told him but it was according to the traditions of the people. We need to make sure that we do what God tells us exactly as He tells us. When we pay attention to the words and the meaning not what we think is the meaning to the words, God will then promote us to bigger things. As we are faithful in the small things and do not despise them then God is able to use us in bigger things. David was faithful as a shepherd boy and God promoted him to be king. You may never be king but God will promote faithfulness.
