"If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God. When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory." (‭Colossians‬ ‭3‬:‭1-4‬ KJV)

When we receive Christ we are accepting that we were in Him in Hid death, burial, resurrection, ascension and seating at the right hand of the Father.  In accepting what Christ did, the Holy Spirit acts upon our spirit and causes us to be recreated by the power of the resurrection life of Christ.  He makes our spirit righteous with the righteousness of Christ and comes to dwell in us.  In the new birth we were raised with Christ.  Paul tells us to seek the things that are above where Christ is seated at the right hand of God.  As we are now in Christ we are also seated at the right hand of God the Father.  This is the place of authority, the authority of the universe.  This is the place of victory for us, victory over the devil, vicroty over the flesh, and victory over the world.  Jesus has already won the victory for us when He bore our sins and died then rose from the dead.  We are to recognize who we are and walk in it.  We do this by setting our affections on the things above.  What we set our affections on is the way we will walk because this is who we are.

In the death of Christ we also died to the things of the world.  Our life is no longer our own but is Christ.  This is the reason we go to heaven because who we are, Christ, hidden with Christ in God.  We do not go to heaven becasue of what we do but who we are.  Who we are then is to dictate what we do.  So in the succeeding verses Paul tells us to put aside the works of the flesh because of who we are. We are to put away sin which destroys us.
