Devotions:
As we meditate in the word of God, God said that we would understand how to do the word and then we would see how to succeed and prosper.
“This book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it; for then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have success.”
Joshua 1:8 NASB
“O how I love Your law! It is my meditation all the day. Your commandments make me wiser than my enemies, For they are ever mine. I have more insight than all my teachers, For Your testimonies are my meditation. I understand more than the aged, Because I have observed Your precepts. I have restrained my feet from every evil way, That I may keep Your word. I have not turned aside from Your ordinances, For You Yourself have taught me. How sweet are Your words to my taste! Yes, sweeter than honey to my mouth! From Your precepts I get understanding; Therefore I hate every false way.” Psalms 119:97-104 NASB
Here the Psalmist talks about other benefits of meditation on the things of God. It makes me wiser than my enemies. Our enemy behind all the evil is the devil. As I take time to meditate in the word of God I become wiser than the master enemy, the devil. As we take time to meditate on the things of God we will have more insight than our teachers. We will excell past them building on what they teach us but then going beyond. As we meditate on the testimonies of God we understand more than the aged. As we grow old we accumilate knowledge from our life experiences. But as you spend time meditating on the testimonies of God you will gain the knowledge without having to go through the life experiences.
It is the word of God that brings us to maturity. Notice that the Psalmist talks about being a doer of the word of God and the benefit that comes from that so that every false way is hated because it detracts from the benefit and blessings of God. He sees God's word as very precious and pleasant to him. We are taught of God even more than those in the Old Testament, if we will take time to listen and meditate in the word of God in order to do it.
