Expectant Faith

Devotions:
So often we are trying to walk by faith and we are filled with doubts and fears but we are trying to will our faith into existence. Faith is not of our will or soul but of our spirit.
“So faith comes by hearing [what is told], and what is heard comes by the preaching [of the message that came from the lips] of Christ (the Messiah Himself).” Romans 10:17 AMP
“For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it.” Hebrews 4:2 KJV
We see here that faith comes from first of all hearing. This works not only with the word of God but with anything that we hear. Advertisers know this, if you get your product before the public often enough they will buy it. If you hear a lie often enough you will believe it. But the word of God has God backing it up with His energy so it should be easier to believe God than anything else.
Secondly when faith comes we must choose to receive it. Many times we have filters that keep us from receiving what God has for us. We think we are not worthy or that what we heard is impossible or we have our own agenda that what God has said does not fit. We must choose to receive what God has said as the word of God.
“Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” 2 Timothy 2:15 KJV
Other words that we can use to characterize faith are excitement and expectation and confidence. These three should be in our hearts when faith is there. As you meditate on the promises of God it will produce these three in you. You will be excited about seeing God's promises fulfilled in your life. You will have an on going expectation of seeing God's word become alive and flesh for you. And you will be confident that His word will come true no matter what the past history or current circumstances are. You will say, I do not know how God will do what He has said but I just know that He will. This is not the assurance of a positive affirmation but a grounding in the word of God that what God has said, He will do.
Are you excited about the word of God? How excited? Are you expectantly looking for God to fulfill His word to you?
