Lesser God

Devotions:

One of the main differences between Christianity and other religions is that they serve a lesser God.  They think that their god can be appeased by their offerings and sacrifices.  They approach god with the sacrifice of Cain, the fruit of their own labor, thinking that this will get them into heaven.  So they think that their god will accept less than perfection as even their offerings are imperfect and it does not perfect them.

Our God is an absolutely perfect God who demands perfection.  We must bring the sacrifice of Able, a substitute for our imperfection.  From Adam to Christ there was no sacrifice that was adequate.  But in Ables offering of the lamb slain to the sacrificial offerings of the Mosaic Law all pointed to the perfect sacrifice, Jesus.  Jesus lived a perfect, sinless life.  He then offered His perfection as a sacrifice for our sins.  His sacrifice, because it was perfect was totally accepted by the Father on our behalf and through it everyone who accepts it is brought into perfection not by our works but by His finished work.  Our God only accepts perfection but He also provided  the perfection.

“Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.

How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?”

Hebrews 9:12, 14 KJV
