Stirring up the Gift.

Devotions:
“Wherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God, which is in thee by the putting on of my hands. For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” 2 Timothy 1:6-7 KJV
God wants us to yield ourselves to the Holy Spirit to use the gifts. Paul here says that we are to stir up the gift. How do we stir up the gift? When we pray in the spirit, in tongues, we are engaging the Holy Spirit. When we pray in the spirit we pray as the Holy Spirit gives us the words. In this we are learning to yield to the Spirit. We are also praying the prefect will of the Father. We are charging up our spirits with the power of God.
Then we are to boldly step out and do what the Holy Spirit tells us to do. In praying in the spirit you also become familiar with the way the Holy Spirit leads you, we call it His voice but many times it is just a witness or a gentle nudge. Paul says that we do not have the spirit of fear. The more time we spend with the Holy Spirit the better we come to know Him. The more we know Him the more confident of His love for us and His commitment to us, so the bolder we become. We know that when we do His leading He will back us up and we are not responsible for the out come but He is.
This is what we need to do to fulfill His commission to go to all the world and preach the gospel and make disciples of all nations. There are many other benefits to praying in tongues.
