Our God

Devotions:

“"FOR THIS IS THE COVENANT THAT I WILL MAKE WITH THE HOUSE OF ISRAEL AFTER THOSE DAYS, SAYS THE LORD: I WILL PUT MY LAWS INTO THEIR MINDS, AND I WILL WRITE THEM ON THEIR HEARTS. AND I WILL BE THEIR GOD, AND THEY SHALL BE MY PEOPLE. " Hebrews‬ ‭8:10‬ ‭NASB‬‬

In the New Covenant God said that He would be our God.  We see Him in Genesis as the El-Shaddai, translated usually as Almighty God.  But El-Shaddai means the one who has the full supply and more left over.  It literally translates as the full breasted one.  God says that we are to be totally dependent upon Him even as a little baby is totally dependent upon its mother for everything, even life itself.

In Exodus 6 God told Moses that His covenant name was Yahweh.  In Genesis

22:14

Abraham declares that God sees ahead and provides, Yahweh Jireh.  When God declared Himself to be our God He said that this applies to all of His sons, He sees ahead in our situation and provides everything that we need.  So He not only says that He is our God but He also established a covenant with us through Jesus that He would be our God.  He then is not a minor person in our lives but He is our life.  He is everything that we need and the door was opened wide into His presence through the sacrifice of Jesus on our behalf.

We should expectantly look to Him as our El-Shaddai, as our Yehwah-Jireh the one who not only supplies but has looked ahead, knows our situation and has made abundant provision for every circumstance in our lives.  The situations that we get into are not a supprise to our God.  He is not having to throw something together quickly to take care of an unforeseen situation in our life.  He has made the provision and the supply is in Jesus.

If we are left to our own ability then we can be caught unaware of coming situations that take all of our resources.  No matter how much we have, our resources are never enough when a major catastrophe happens to us.  But God's provision is more that enough.

This provision is accessed by faith and we know we are in faith when we are walking in rest that we have what we have asked from God.
