Jesus our Jubilee

Devotions:

        “And ye shall hallow the fiftieth year, and proclaim liberty throughout all the land unto all the inhabitants thereof: it shall be a jubilee unto you; and ye shall return every man unto his possession, and ye shall return every man unto his family. A jubilee shall that fiftieth year be unto you: ye shall not sow, neither reap that which groweth of itself in it, nor gather the grapes in it of thy vine undressed. For it is the jubilee; it shall be holy unto you: ye shall eat the increase thereof out of the field. In the year of this jubilee ye shall return every man unto his possession.”

        Seven is the number of completion in the scriptures.  Seven sets of seven years the Israelites were to celebrate the year of Jubilee.  This was the year that all debts were cancelled and everything reverted back to the original owner.  The year of Jubilee kept the Israelites from being buried in debts.

        Jesus is our year of Jubilee.  In Jesus, all that we lost in the sin of Adam is restored to us.  In the year of Jubilee, all debt was cancelled.  In Jesus all our debt of sin is cancelled and we are restored to wholeness.  Notice that the Israelites were to do no work in the year of Jubilee.  We can do no work for our salvation, Jesus did it all for us.  If we try to add to Jesus' work of salvation we defile it with our labor. 

        “It was for freedom that Christ set us free; therefore keep standing firm and do not be subject again to a yoke of slavery.”  ‭Galatians‬ ‭5:1‬ ‭NASB‬‬

        The yoke of slavery is the law and trying to keep it by our own effort.  We are to do no work to secure our freedom, Christ has done it all for us, but we are to partake of what God has done for us. Notice that it says here in Leviticus that we are to eat the increase of what we have not labored.  The year of Jubilee is not a year of diminished production just because we are not working but a year of abundance.  Also the shadow of the year of Jubilee was only a year.  The reality is that is has been over two thousand years. 

        Do not let Satan come and put past debts of sin upon you, you have partaken of your year of Jubilee, Jesus.
