Do Be Ignorant!

Devotions:

“My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Because you have rejected knowledge, I also will reject you from being My priest. Since you have forgotten the law of your God, I also will forget your children.”  ‭Hosea‬ ‭4:6‬ ‭NASB‬‬

“Moreover, brethren, I would not that ye should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea; And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea; And did all eat the same spiritual meat; And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.”  ‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭10:1-4‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Our ignorance of spiritual things is an open door for the enemy to come into our lives and destroy us and we will not even know why. Hosea says by the Spirit of God that lack of knowledge will destroy us and then Paul says here that he does not want us ignorant about the dealings of God in the lives of the Old Testament saints. God brought Israel through the Red Sea on dry land and separated them from those who had oppressed them.  The Egyptian army was totally destroyed by the waters of the Red Sea.  This is a type of baptism.  And yet the children of Israel chose to follow idols, grumble, committed fornication, tempted God as they followed their own lust. God was not well pleased with them.

Teh experience of the Red Sea is a picture of our new birth at which time our enemies are cut off from their influence over us.  We were made new creations, behold old things have passed away, new things have come and it is all of God.  Pauls warning is that we are to take authority over our flesh and recognize who God has made us, His sons and daughters.

Secondly Isreal passed through the cloud.  The cloud led them by day and became a pilar of fire by night.  The cloud not only led them but it also protected them from the extreme heat of the desert sun.  The pilar of fire then would warm them in the cold desert night.  This is a picture of the Holy Spirit who watches over us and protects us.  He guides us in the path we should take to keep us out of the way of the evil one.

“This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would. But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law.

And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.”  ‭Galatians‬ ‭5:16-18, 24-25‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh. For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live. For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭8:12-14‬ ‭KJV‬‬
So the path to victory is to know the reality of the new birth and then to follow the leading of the Holy Spirit, yielding to His power in you to overcome the weakness of our flesh.
