Draw Near to God
July 3, 2016
Devotion:
Our actions, our life style comes out of our belief. When we have correct believing we will have correct actions.
“Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ: Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord, According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue: Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.”
2 Peter 1:1-4 KJV
Through the cross of Jesus and His burial, resurrection and seating at the right hand of the Father we have all that we need that pertains to life and godliness. We cannot say that we cannot help but sin becasue God has already dealt with sin. Where does the faith come from to overcome? First through the righteousness of God and Savior Jesus Christ. God did not diminish His righteousness when He made us righteous but the mystery of salvation He maintained His own righteousness and also made us righteous with His perfect righteousness, a righteousness that cannot diminish. This faith then accesses His grace and peace. Our grace and peace is multiplied through the knowledge of God. That is by walking in intimacy with God our faith in His grace will grow. The more time we spend fellowshipping with the Father and Jesus the more our faith will grow and the more our lives will demonstrate His righteousness.
Our focus then is not to try to perfect ourselves but to draw close to Him. As we do we will put away the things of the flesh because the things of God are so much better. In James he says that if we draw near to God He will draw near to us. A legion of demons could not distract the man they possessed from coming to Jesus and worshipping Him and they cannot stop you>
