Freedom

Devotions:

Today is Independence Day in America but we as Christians celebrate a much greater liberation day, the day we were liberated from sin and the effects of sin.  Jesus bore our sins on the cross and paid the full penalty for those sins so that we would not have to pay the penalty so that everyone that believes that Jesus died for their sins is set free from the penalty for sin.  John 16 Jesus says that when the Hooly Spirit comes He will convict the world of sin...because they do not know Jesus.  All of our sins and our sin nature was dealt with in Jesus.  Jesus paid the full price for our identity as a sinner and for all of our sinful actions where were a fruit of who we were.  Now we have been made the righteousness of God by receiving eternal life at our new birth, so the root of sin was dealt with.  We are no longer sinners but new creations.  We were liberated from the conquences of sin and the more we focus on the liberator, Jesus, the more the residual effects of the person we once were will loose their hold on us.  When we look to Him in our weakness the more of His power we will see to totally set us free from the lies of the devil.

Our independence came through the covenant that our representative, Jesus, cut with the Father. It is a permanent covenant which neither Jesus nor the Father will break.  We put ourselves back under bondage when we try to please God through our own works reacher than accepting His work and responding to what He has done.  He knows who you are and every little detail about your life and He loves you anyway.  This is true freedom.
