Wisdom
“Get wisdom, get understanding: forget it not; neither decline from the words of my mouth. Forsake her not, and she shall preserve thee: love her, and she shall keep thee. Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding. Exalt her, and she shall promote thee: she shall bring thee to honour, when thou dost embrace her. She shall give to thine head an ornament of grace: a crown of glory shall she deliver to thee.” Proverbs 4:5-9 KJV
In the first line Solomon equates wisdom with the word. The word of God is the wisdom of God. As we exalt the word of God it will exalt us. The word of God is a revelation of Jesus, so in exalting the word of God we should be exalting Jesus and not a set of rules and regulations. Jesus said:
“Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.” John 5:39 KJV
In the word of God, Old and New Covenant we find Jesus and His finished work. As we treasure the word of God and lift it up we should lift up Jesus. All of.the sacrifices and stories in the Old Testament point to Jesus. The Gospels are about Jesus. The epistles are written about Jesus and His finished work, even the book of Revelations, is a revelation of Jesus.
“But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption:”. 1 Corinthians 1:30 KJV
There is an earthly wisdom and a wisdom from heaven. The wisdom from heaven is greater.
“Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men.” 1 Corinthians 1:25 KJV
When we make God and His word first place in our lives then as the proverb says, it will preserve us, as we love her Shen shall keep us. As we exalt her she will promote us and bring us honor. As we embrace her she shall give us an ornament of grace, a crown of glory.
