Grieve Not the Holy Spirit

Devotions:

“Then those of you who escape will remember Me among the nations to which they will be carried captive, how I have been hurt by their adulterous hearts which turned away from Me, and by their eyes which played the harlot after their idols; and they will loathe themselves in their own sight for the evils which they have committed, for all their abominations.”

‭‭Ezekiel‬ ‭6:9‬ ‭NASB‬‬

“Do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.”

‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭4:30‬ ‭NASB‬‬

Paul says to no greive the Holy Spirit.  This in the Greek carries a picture of a man returning home unexpectedly and finding his wife in bed with another man.  This is the betrayal that we do when we rely on the flesh and other gods rather than the Lord God Almighty.  When we turn to anyone or anything else for help rather than the Holy Spirit then we will grieve Him.  In Ezekiel God says that he is hurt by our idolatry, that is any thing that would come between us and God.  God's passion for us is so great and His desire to see us not hurt is so large because Hs loves us greatly.  When we turn away from Him we turn to hurt and pain as our companions and to misery as our company.  God wants us to walk in fullness of joy and in His pleasure.  He knows the route we should take so we do not hurt ourselves.  Our life is in Him. He is the only good in the universe so when we turn from Him we turn to the curse and this grieves Him.  Left to ourselves, evil will destroy us. Choose to walk with God in everything.
