Unto Us A Child is Born

Devotions:

“For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.” ‭Isaiah‬ ‭9:6-7‬ ‭KJV‬‬

This prophecy about the coming of the Messiah is very powerful.  For one it tells us that Mary is not the mother of God but only the provider of His flesh body.  Unto us a child is born, that is His physical body, unto us a Son is given. Jesus was the eternal Son in the bosom of the Father. His sonship did not come from Mary. Some do not believer that Jesus was God and yet here one of the names is, The mighty God.  He is God in the flesh forever.  It also says that of the increase of His government there will be not end.  Despite what the world will tell you Christianity is not decreasing but increasing.  Some would say that we are in a post Christian era but not if what Isaiah says is true.  It is like saying that the enemy is getting an upper hand but Jesus defeated him at the cross, he has been put to naught.  Can a defeated foe win?

Notice that the zeal of the Lord will accomplish all of the work of the Lord not us, that includes our salvation. We are that kingdom and it last forever.

This is what we celebrate at Christmas.  The coming of the promised Davidic Kingdom, the Kingdom of God once again established on the earth. The culmination happened thirty three years later at the crucifixion, burial, resurrection, assertion and coming of the Holy Spirit.

Because of the baby Jesus, who even though He was God, came as a real human, we can rest in our salvation and rejoice.
