Boldness to Receive Help
Devotions:
“Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.”
Hebrews 4:16 ESV
“Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.”
Hebrews 4:16 KJV
First we are to come boldly and with confidence to the throne of grace. To have boldness we cannot have any hint of unrighteousness or fear that there might exist any hidden unrighteousness upon us. Just as Jesus after He bore our sins and because sin for us and died under the penalty of that sin, when He arose from the dead victorious, He had no taint or even a hint of sin upon Him because He went directly into the presence of the Father and was seated at the right hand of the Father. He boldly and with confidence went into the presence of the Father and sat down on the seat of authority. He gave us His righteousness so that we could boldly and confidently go before the mercy seat.
The purpose of going before the mercy seat is not to beg or cry or plead with God hoping that He hears us and grants our request but it is to confidently obtain mercy and grace to help in the time of need. We need mercy when we fail and sin. We need grace to help us to do the will of God. Our confidence is that we will receive and obtain the mercy and grace that we need.
“The wicked flee when no man pursueth: but the righteous are bold as a lion.”
Proverbs 28:1 KJV
