“You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; and it is they that bear witness about me, yet you refuse to come to me that you may have life.”

‭‭John‬ ‭5:39-40‬ ‭ESV‬‬

The Jews had the same problem that most people have, even some Christians.  They are trying to fulfill the Law through their own efforts to be pleasing to the Creator, our Father.  God did not give the Law to help us straighten up our act, so to speak, but to show us that we could not straighten up our act by our own will and strength and also to show us the solution, a Savior.  We cannot merit or earn eternal life. We cannot gain eternal life through our own efforts in any way. But Jesus came to give us His eternal life when we believe on Him. That is when we believe that He died for our sins, was buried and rose on the third day victorious over death, hell and the grave.

Without Jesus we have no relationship with our Father.  Jesus took our separation from the Father caused by our sin nature and the resulting sins, and gave us His perfect relationship with the Father.  Jesus gave us His righteousness.  The enemy of that righteousness is not sin but sin consciousness.  Jesus took care of the sin but the enemy keeps in rememberance of our past sins.  We must make a conscious effort to accept the cleansing of the Blood of Jesus as the permanent testimony of our righteousness.  The work of Jesus on the cross is a perfect work so that now there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.  When we wrong someone we need to humble ourselves and confess our wrong to them and ask their forgiveness but before God we are already forgiven.  As we are learning to walk in the new person that Christ has made us we will make mistakes but the Blood of Jesus will continually cleanse us as we walk in the light of who we are in Him and who He is in us.
