Devotions:
We are taught to pray in the name of Jesus but it becomes a ritual, a meaningless repetition. We must understand the authority behind the name of Jesus and our right to use His name in prayer and in speaking to situations with authority.
WE saw that Jesus inherited a more excellent name that the Angels. another way of coming by a name is to receive it by conquest.
“When He had disarmed the rulers and authorities, He made a public display of them, having triumphed over them through Him.”
Colossians 2:15 NASB
This is referring to Jesus' defeat of the enemy, Satan. He took away all their weaponery of warfare against us and demonstrated how weak they are.
“and what is the surpassing greatness of His power toward us who believe. These are in accordance with the working of the strength of His might which He brought about in Christ, when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come. And He put all things in subjection under His feet, and gave Him as head over all things to the church, which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all.”
Ephesians 1:19-23 NASB
“But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in our transgressions, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), and raised us up with Him, and seated us with Him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus,” Ephesians 2:4-6 NASB
Jesus' defeat of Satan was not for Himself but for us. So the name of Jesus, that we have been given the right to use, was not only inherited by Jesus because God is His Father but He also acquired His name through conquest. Demons have to bow at the mention of that Name on your life. Believe in His Name and use His Name against all of the wiles of the devil against you.
