Jesus Inherited an Excellent Name
Devotions:
There are three different ways that a person can obtain a name. They can inherit that name. They can have the name bestowed upon them or they can gain the name in conquest.
A person whose parents are distinguished and prosperous pass their name on to their children. In Europe two hundred years ago, royalty passed their titles, posistions and wealth on to their children. Today, people who gather great wealth will pass the wealth on to their children and the authority that goes with that wealth.
In Jesus' case, His lineage comes directly from the Heavenly Father, so He inherited and excellent name.
“in these last days has spoken to us in His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the world. And He is the radiance of His glory and the exact representation of His nature, and upholds all things by the word of His power. When He had made purification of sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high, having become as much better than the angels, as He has inherited a more excellent name than they.” Hebrews 1:2-4 NASB
This is the name that we have been given authority to use. The angels are seen as mighty, powerful beings, of greater strength that we humans but Jesus inherited a name with more authority than the angels.
In legal matters on the earth if I want business done on earth but I am not available to transact the business, I can find a worthy person that I know and can trust and sign a legal document that says that person can act on my behalf concerning the matter at hand. When I moved to Russia there was family business that I knew was coming and I would not be available in the U.S to deal with so I gave the power of attorney to my brother to act in my place. Jesus has given us power of attorney to act in His place by the use of His name. He inherited a more excellent name than the angels and Satan is a fallen angel so we have received a name that Jesus inherited that is better than the name of Satan. When we use the name of Jesus then Satan cannot resist nor stand but must flee.
