Our Helmet

“And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:”

‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭6:17‬ ‭KJV‬‬

We must guard our thinking. Our mind is protected by knowing we are saved.  If we are not sure of our salvation then we are easily attacked by the enemy and held in bondage to sin consciousness and guilt.  We are afraid that we might do something wrong, a sin, and not repent therefore in our thinking, we would go to hell if we died without repentance.  But perfect love cast out fear.  When we were saved we were made just like Jesus, 1 John 4:17. This is our salvation, the new birth when our spirits were made just like Jesus. We then keep our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith. Our salvation is not based on our works but on Jesus' perfect work for us and in us.

“But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation.” ‭1 Thessalonians‬ ‭5:8‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Here Paul calls it the helmet of the hope of salvation.  We have salvation but we are also looking for the completion of our salvation when we will shed this body that weighs us down and receive a body like His.  Our salvation is in three tenses, we were saved when we received Jesus, our spirits were born again.  We are being saved now as we behold Him and are changed from glory to glory, our souls are being saved and we will be saved when Jesus returns and our bodies are transformed to a body like His, a resurrection body.  Our helmet of salvation and the hope of salvation, who we are and the finished work of God protects our mind from the attack of the enemy.
