All We Need Comes From the Head

Devotions:

“And not holding fast to the Head, from Whom the entire body, supplied and knit together by means of its joints and ligaments, grows with a growth that is from God.”

‭‭Colossians‬ ‭2:19‬ ‭AMPC‬‬

Everything that we need has been supplied in Christ Jesus, the head of the body.  Our religious activity of praying, fasting, reading and meditation on the word of God can all be done with the wrong attitude and motivation and end up profiting us nothing.  If in our religious piety we are trying to earn something from God like acceptance or forgiveness then we are operating under works and will not please God nor receive anything from Him. He has already provided it, we cannot earn it. We must be careful that our piety, even in giving to the poor or to the church is not to earn God's approval or stay on His good side.

Our focus is to hold on to the head, Jesus and develope in that relationship with Him as He is the Head and we are the body. As said in Hebrews 12, looking unto Jesus who is the author and finisher of our faith.  We are not trying to keep the law but be joined to Jesus. Romans 7:4 "We have died to the law through the body of Christ that we might be joined to another, to Him who was raised from the dead that we might bring forth fruit unto God." It is not our effort that brings forth fruit but His. And as we receive of His fullness we are the avenue to provide fullness to others.  So the whole body grows because of the supply of Christ Jesus.  We gather together to bring the supply that He has given us individually and to feed on that supply that falls on us corporately.  To come to maturity as a Christian we then must regularly meet together and corporately partake of the Head, Jesus.
