God's Love in the Old Testament

Devotions:

“For in Jesus Christ neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision; but faith which worketh by love.”

‭‭Galatians‬ ‭5:6‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Many people do not understand the picture of God that we have in the Old Covenant.  God restrained His anger against and tempered it with mercy.  He did not totally wipe out the human race because He was looking forward to the cross of Jesus when the price of sin would be paid. The misunderstanding that comes from thinking that God is mean and cruel as seemingly portrayed in the Old Covenant twist our understanding of God's goodness and love.  The Old Covenat portrayal of God was because there was no redemption in place only a looking forward to the perfect redemption.

We see God's love perfectly poured out in Jesus.  He did not come to condemn the world but to save it.  God held back His wrath that was justly due and even demanded by the court of justice and He poured it out entirely on Jesus.  Sin today still has dire conquences in itself but the judgement from God was taken by Jesus.  Behold the love of God and the extent that He went to demonstrate His love for us. Do not be short changed by the thoughts that you do not qualify, because of Jesus you do.

“But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”

‭‭Romans‬ ‭5:8‬ ‭KJV‬‬
