Marriage And Divorce

Devotions:
“It hath been said, Whosoever shall put away his wife, let him give her a writing of divorcement: but I say unto you, That whosoever shall put away his wife, saving for the cause of fornication, causeth her to commit adultery: and whosoever shall marry her that is divorced committeth adultery.” Matthew 5:31-32 KJV
To adulterate is to pollute a pure substance with a foreign agent bringing confusion to the mixture. When we get married and enter fully into the relationship, it is a pure relationship. When you divorce your spouse and marry someone else, you are bringing confusion to your soul. If the spouse has committed adultery then they have introduced impurity and confusion into the relationship. We were created to have one relationship at a time and that one a committed relationship until death. When you have multiple physically intimate relationships then you scar your soul and become unresponsive to the needs of others. That is wanting the benefit without being obligated for the responsibility.
One of the reasons for a godly marriage is to raise godly children. When the parents break up because of divorce it damages the children. They do not see their parents being faithful through good times and bad times and they then question God’s commitment in the covenant. The husband and wife relationship is to point us to the committed relationship with God.
God knows that we need a pure relationship with Him. He is the only source of good and blessings. We need to walk in that covenant relationship with Him.
