Keeping covenant

Devotions:
“Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery: but I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart. And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell. And if thy right hand offend thee, cut it off, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.” Matthew 5:27-30 KJV
There is a significant connection between our imagination, what we visualize, and what we do. We will do what we visualize so it is not enough to keep our actions clean and pure, we must also keep our thoughts, dreams and what we focus on pure. Jesus says here that it is important enough to keep our thoughts pure that if it cost a member of our body it is worth it. This is how serious sin is. Jesus paid the ultimate price for our redemption. He did not just lose an eye on our behalf or a hand. He gave up His whole life for us and went to hell in our place so that we could be restored to our Father.
Adultery also has a spiritual side. When we turn away from God towards anything else we are violating our covenant with Him and committing spiritual adultery. What we do colors how we see God. When we commit adultery we are looking to the flesh to meet a need that only God can fulfill. We also then see God as a covenant breaker who may or may not fulfill His word to us. When we see God as a covenant keeper we will more likely be a covenant keeper.
