Settle Accounts Early

Devotions:

““Or say you’re out on the street and an old enemy accosts you. Don’t lose a minute. Make the first move; make things right with him. After all, if you leave the first move to him, knowing his track record, you’re likely to end up in court, maybe even jail. If that happens, you won’t get out without a stiff fine.” ‭‭Matthew‬ ‭5:25-26‬ ‭MSG‬‬

“Agree with thine adversary quickly, whiles thou art in the way with him; lest at any time the adversary deliver thee to the judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officer, and thou be cast into prison. Verily I say unto thee, Thou shalt by no means come out thence, till thou hast paid the uttermost farthing.” ‭‭Matthew‬ ‭5:25-26‬ ‭KJV‬‬

The way of love is as much as you can, live at peace with all men. If we do not take it upon ourselves to try to make peace. The issue goes to court and we are found guilty we will pay the full penalty. We must be merciful to those who owe us a debt but just to those who we owe a debt.

Also when you take this into the spiritual realm, Jesus is saying that the time to get saved is now not when you stand before God at the judgement. To agree with our adversary is to agree with God that we are sinners worthy of divine judgement. The settlement that we come to is to accept God’s free gift of mercy that is in Jesus Christ. If we do not come to an agreement with God while we are on this earth the guilty verdict will be pronounced against us and the punishment will last into eternity.
