The Narrow Gate

Devotions:
“Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.” Matthew 7:13-14 KJV
“Then said Jesus unto them again, Verily, verily, I say unto you, I am the door of the sheep. All that ever came before me are thieves and robbers: but the sheep did not hear them. I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.” John 10:7-9 KJV
Many think that the gate that Jesus talks about is the law. They believe that the way to heaven is by keeping the law. No one is justified by trying to keep the law. Here Jesus was speaking to the Jews who thought that they were justified before God by keeping the law but they could not do it perfectly. Besides the law did not have the power to make anyone perfect.
The wide gate is our attempt to save ourselves and we fail. That is why we needed a savior. Jesus is the only way for salvation. He lived a perfect life and then died to take our sins upon Himself and give us His righteousness. He asked the Father in the garden of Gethsemane that if there were any other way, to let the cup pass from Him, but there was no other way. If God cannot come up with any other way for us to be saved why do we think that we or anyone else can come up with another way? Many people are trying many different ways to go to heaven but they all fail. The only way is by Jesus and what He has done for us.
