The Holy Ghost Our Comforter

“And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Comforter (Counselor, Helper, Intercessor, Advocate, Strengthener, and Standby), that He may remain with you forever–”

        “And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.” ‭John‬ ‭14:16-17‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Jesus told His disciples that He would be replaced by another comforter, the Spirit of truth who is the Holy Spirit. Notice that Jesus did not say that He would give us a spirit of conviction or condemnation but a Comforter, Helper, Counselor, Intercessor, Advocate, Strengthener, and Standby. So when we sin the Holy Spirit is there to comfort us and to help us. He only convicts the world of sin, righteousness and judgement. Sin, because they do no Jesus. Righteousness, because Jesus has gone to the Father and we see Him no more. That is the door has been opened to the Father for who so ever wills. And Judgement because the God of this world has been judged already. John 16: 8-11

“Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.” ‭1 John‬ ‭3:9‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“For if our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart, and knoweth all things. Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, then have we confidence toward God.”

When we are born again our spirit becomes the righteousness of God. When we sin our righteous spirit condemns us that we are not walking according to who we are. This is the voice of our conscious. We can override this voice but then we get into Satan’s territory. We need to be quick to repent and to turn back to God. The Holy Spirit will help us to make things right.
