The one of the things that the book of Daniel is about the devil trying to dispose of Daniel and making him ineffective. It starts in the first chapter when the king had all the captives that were there to be trained insisted that they eat the food that was not allowed under the Jewish law. Daniel and the three associates stood their ground and God came through for them. Then there was Nebuchadnezzar’s dream that he did not remember. He insisted that the wise men, including Daniel, tell him the dream and the interpretation. Before Daniel was consulted the other wise men said that they could not tell the dream so they could not interpret it. Nebuchadnezzar ordered all the men killed. When the guard came to execute Daniel, Daniel inquired why. When he was told why, he asked for some time to get the answer. Then he and the three associates prayed and fasted. God gave Daniel the dream and the answer. Daniel got promoted. Then Nebuchadnezzar built a golden statue and demanded that everyone bow down and worship it when they hear any music. The three Hebrew sons refused to worship any one but God. They were thrown into the fiery furnace and survived. Then when Darius took over and some of his leaders tricked him into signing a law that no one could pray to anyone but him for thirty days or they would be thrown into a lions den. Daniel knew this and openly as was his habit prayed to God. Darius did not want to put Daniel in the lions den but his hands were tied. Daniel stayed the night unharmed because God did a miracle.

All this happened because Daniel and his three friends served God unashamedly. We have a better covenant based on better promises. When we live for God we can also expect God to move on our behalf as we trust Him and call on Him.
