Put Off The Old Man

Devotions:

“This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind, having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart: who being past feeling have given themselves over unto lasciviousness, to work all uncleanness with greediness. But ye have not so learned Christ; if so be that ye have heard him, and have been taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus: that ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; and that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.” ‭Ephesians‬ ‭4:17-22, 24‬ ‭KJV‬‬

The difference between being a Christian and a non-Christian is the brightest light and the darkest dark. There is not comparison. But until our mind is renewed to the life of God we continue to weigh the world on equal or even a little better than Christianity. We continuously choose the old path of the way of the world over the new path of God’s way. The way of the world is full of false bright flashing lights that our carnal nature picks upon. Our carnal nature is blinded to the bright light of the gospel. Our eyes were initially opened to the gospel light in the spiritual realm when we were born again. Without feeding on the word of God  so that our minds were transformed, that light was dimmed.

Paul tells us to put off the old way of life of the old man and put on the new man that God created in Christ Jesus. A man created in righteousness and holiness. Jesus is our righteousness and our holiness, not a holiness and righteousness created by our behavior. Our behavior comes out of who we are in Christ. Our behavior does not create who we are.
