Purged From Sin, A Vessel Fit for The Master’s Use

Devotions:

“Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity. But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonour. If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master's use, and prepared unto every good work.”

‭‭2 Timothy‬ ‭2:19-21‬ ‭KJV‬‬

We read this verse and we automatically think of trying to  set ourselves free from sin by our own teeth grinding efforts. But in our own strength we can never set ourselves free from the sin that entangles us. When we try we fail and get trapped in condemnation.  Then we feel hopelessly trapped and not pleasing to God. To get set free and purge ourselves we must simply believe that we have been set free by Jesus. We yield to sin because we do not believe that Jesus purged us of our sins and we try then to purge ourselves.

“hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds; who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;” ‭Hebrews‬ ‭1:2-3‬ ‭KJV‬‬

If we look to our actions we become snared by the devil because we do not believe that we have been set free from sin. We then try to eradicate sin from us instead of trusting in the finished work of Jesus. The way to purge ourselves is to meditate on the word of God that tells us that we have been set free, 1 Peter 2: 24 or Colossians 1:12,13 or Roman 6: 1-12 until the reality of the finished work of Christ is established in our hearts. The word of God tells us that we have been already purged from sin but we will not walk in the reality of it until we believe what God has done.
