Honoring God

Devotions:

“In the fear of the LORD is strong confidence: And his children shall have a place of refuge. The fear of the LORD is a fountain of life, To depart from the snares of death.” ‭Proverbs‬ ‭14:26-27‬ ‭KJV‬‬

There are a couple of meanings of the word fear. One is to tremble in fright in expectation of violence done against you or bad circumstances.  The other is to honor, value and esteem with highest regard and greatest respect.

“Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world. There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.” ‭1 John‬ ‭4:17-18‬ ‭KJV‬‬

There is no fear in love. The type of fear that John is talking about is the cringing fear of punishment. The fear of an angry God. That fear has no place in our relationship with God because Jesus bore all the angry judgement of our Father that was due us. Jesus made us just like Himself, perfect before our Father. When we see ourselves as Jesus has made us in the new birth then we will understand and express the fear of honoring and esteeming God for who He is and the mighty work He has done in redemption. We will show Him honor as the Almighty God.
