“And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.” John 17:3 KJV
Christianity is all about our relationship with our Heavenly Father. And in that relationship we gain the realization of our identity. We are Sons of God. Gods paid an eternal price for our redemption. Our Christian walk is not trying to keep a bunch of rules whether it be the Ten Commandments or rules created from the New Testament but it is an intimate walk with God.
Does that mean that God is not concerned about our sin? Yes and no. Yes, He does not want us living in sin. Sin will kill us and make us miserable while we are in it. Also No, because He has already taken care of our sin. He laid it upon Jesus and gave us a new heart and a new spirit. A heart of tenderness towards our God and a spirit of righteousness and holiness.
If our focus is on us trying to get saved and stay saved then we stay babies. We are asking God to do something that He has already done. So we become frustrated. The more we beg God to save us and make us righteous and holy the more disappointed we become. But when we receive by faith that God has made us already, holy, righteous and saved in the new birth we begin to see the fruit of His work. He has set us free from sin.
“Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world.” 1 John 4:17 KJV
